- What is the Pythian Council?
As defined in the adopted Pyth DAO Constitution, the Pythian Council is made of 8 members who are signers of the Pythian Multisig Wallet. The Pythian Multisig Wallet has powers to perform actions that are delegated to it by the Pyth DAO.
The Operational PIPs delegated to the Pythian Council involve:
-
The upgrade of the oracle program
-
The upgrade of the verification program for each of the blockchains where Pyth data is accessible
-
The setting of data request fees per blockchain, as well as other protocol or network fees
-
The management of PGAS allocation and delegation to validators
-
The upgrade of the ER program for each of the blockchain where ER is available
-
The assignment of the relayer function and monitoring of the performance of such assignment
-
The setting of the Express Relay fee distribution
The execution of such actions by the Pythian Council requires 7-of-9 approval (with one of the default multisig holders being the Operations Wallet itself)
The first-ever Pythian Council was elected in March 2024 and consisted of 8 elected members who you can see here. The second Pythian Council was elected in September 2024, where 4 council members were replaced as specified by the Constitution, who can be found here. The third Pythian Council was elected in April 2025, where 4 council members were replaced as specified by the Constitution, which can be found here.
Reminder that the Pythian Council elected members have previously been awarded stipends for their role and actions.
- The 4th Pythian Council
According to the Pyth DAO constitution, the 4 members (out of 8) to remain in the next Pythian Council are selected given the following cascading criteria (the Election Criteria):
-
the shorter tenure until the date of the election;
-
in the case of equal tenure, the member with the higher amount of votes in the last election;
-
in the case of equal tenure and equal amounts of votes, the member with the higher count of multisig participations
It is important to note that any Council member who has voted less than 1/3 of the proposals during the term will be excluded from automatic re-election.
You can find the table recapping all proposals (OP-PIP) here.
The 3 below council members have the shortest duration (only 1 tenure) and so are automatically reelected unless they decide to step down (via a post below) or have failed to meet the 1/3 voting threshold:
-
Yaser Jazouane — Douro Labs
-
George M — XBTO
-
Lee Mount — Euler Labs
Among the other council members, both Ivo Galic (Trebuchet Network) and Y2Kappa (Kamino) have had 2 terms. Following the above rules, the last automatically re-elected council member is the one with the higher amount of votes in the last election.
-
Ivo Galic — Trebuchet Network → 185M votes FOR
-
Y2Kappa — Kamino → 194.04M votes FOR ; which would join the other 3 council members above.
Below are the voting participation of the 4 tentatively re-elected members:
-
Yaser Jazouane — Douro Labs → 100%
-
George M — XBTO → 90.91%
-
Lee Mount — Euler Labs → 13.64%
-
Y2Kappa — Kamino → 0%
The latter 2 council members have failed to reach the 33% threshold established and therefore will not be automatically re-elected.
Therefore, the 4th Pythian Council Election must elect 6 new council members. They will join: Yaser Jazouane and George M.
